As anyone can see from the name of this town, it is almost completely dedicated to their most famous citizen, Martin Luther. It was here in Wittenberg where he was working as a priest and it was here where nailed his 95 thesis on the church door, starting the reformation. Martin Luther had started the Reformation process, but it was the coincidence of meeting another scholar, Philip Melanchthon and the help of the Duke Frederic the Wise which made it possible. Had it only been Martin Luther, we'd probably wouldn't even remember his name. |
| | Anyone who is interested in the history of the Christian church and the denominations will sooner or later visit this town. For all other visitors, it's a nice, old town. |
| | As you can see from many plates on houses throughout Wittenberg many famous people have visited here. Have a look up on the buildings. |
