Nh Wien (Mariahilferstrasse 34 1070 Wien): A very good choice   Check Rates

  • We had originally booked for three, but then my husband couldn't come with us, so it was just my daughter and myself. The room they gave us was a suite, a large bedroom, a living-room with a couch, wide enough to sleep on it, a kitchen corner with table and fridge and a huge bathroom, which could be divided into two parts by an extra door. The fridge especially was very handy in this hot summer.
The hallway leading to the suite was dark, another lightbulb wouldn't have been luxury.
Breakfast was included in the rate, it was a good buffet style breakfast.

Unique Qualities: Unique qualities: the staff's friendliness. They were all very friendly, very helpful. My daughter got sick during the end of our stay, they gave us information about pharmacies, doctors, medication, they really cared and wanted to help. Not at all common in a large and busy hotel.
Several weeks later, we had long returned home, we were sent a small camera. This had originally been part of the deal, but it hadn't been provided by the time we were there, so they mailed it to us.

Pension Dr. Geissler: Lots of Space!   Check Rates

  • We had learned rather late that we were going to Vienna during the Euro 2008 and of course most places I checked were either fully booked or far too expensive. On the Vienna pages of VT Member Globetrott I read about this hotel, mailed them asking for a triple and got a reservation.
I had expected a triple like I know them from London, three beds crammed into one room and when you need to use the bathroom you have to climb over the extra bed. So I was very pleasantly surprised when our triple in the Pension Dr Geissler turned out to be a flat with two bedrooms, a bathroom , a seperate toilet and a hallway. It was great to have so much space to move!
It seems the building is a mixture of apartments for tenants and some hotel rooms. This was just perfect for us. It is an old building, something that can especially be seen in the bathroom with its very small bathtub. The water pressure was very good, though.

Our double faced the street and it was noisy at night. We live in the city centre and are used to street noise, but someone from a quieter area might have problems sleeping. The matraces were firm, though, and made sleeping very easy. My son's room faced a yard and was much quieter.

The location is excellent, about a 10 minutes walk to the Stephansdom, maybe five minutes to an underground station. It says on the website the airport bus stops directly opposite the hotel, this is no longer the case as we found out after walking around for half an hour. The bus stop is now on the opposite end of the Schwedenplatz.
A good breakfast is included in the price. We paid 116 Euro per night , a really good price for this location.

If you have problems walking, this is not the place to go, however. There is an elevator, but in order to get there you have to walk up about ten steep steps directly behind the entrance door. Impossible for anybody with walking problems.

Vienna certainly has many interesting and wonderful tourist attractions. A visit to the zoo, museums and entertaining oneself with classical music are some of the better known attractions. We hope to visit the city of Vienna one day! ~ho & pang

Reading these wonderful descriptions makes me want to go to Vienna again. I think you fell under its spell also, judging from these tips. I'd love to conduct the orchestra. Next time :))
