First Asian Trip with our 3 teenagers

by chrisvandenbroucke - last update: Feb 12, 2004

Why Thailand?

Catherine, Camille, Chris, Ilse and Pj in Sukhotai
We (Catherine and me) have traveled a lot and want to give our children the possibility to see part of the world with their parents as 'guide'
In 2000 we and the 3 children (10,11 and 13) went to Egypt - a must for everyone. In 2001 we explored an ex-Sovier countr (Hungary) and in 2002 we flew to Turkey to make the mix of history, nature and sea.
We thought they were ripe to visit Asia... and we were right

What are we interested in?

First of all, we go for the culture.
To visit temples, lost civilizations, to glance back in time. We're interested in other religions.

Next, we are interested in nature. We are ecologists and never leave paper on the street.

Moreover, we love the good weather and the sea. We always try to have 2 days of swimming..
Last, we love the people of Thailand

Backpacking

We're traveling a lot but can afford this only if we travel cheaply.
We stay at cheap guesthouses and tell the children that our lodging is far better than what locals have.
We take buses or train and try never to complain about the sometimes terrible circumstances.
