"A great base for exploring" Ballachulish by SalsaNikki

Ballachulish Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 5 photos

It was a great base for exploring the Ardnamurchan - a completely unspoiled area. We were on a driving holiday and we were the only car on the road all day, and we soon discovered that we gave way to the 'coos', not the other way round :)

To start our day out you had to cross in to the peninsular using the ferry.

The only downside to staying by the loch was the midges (but that's always going to be a bit of a problem in Scotland in September!)

That said, if you're prepared to brave them (or use some good strong bug repellent!) then you get to see the beautiful hues over the water and mountains as the sun sets.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Beautiful scenery and a lovely place to stay
  • Cons:MIDGES!
  • In a nutshell:A complete getaway from the hustle and bustle
