Krakow, is situated in the South East of Poland, on the banks of the Vistula river. It was the capital of Poland from 1040 until 1596. It has one of the best preserved medieval city centres in Europe. In Krakow there are 360 pieces of historical interest, such as squares, churches and town houses. In 1978 Krakow was included in the UNESCO list of World’s cultural heritage as one of the 12 most precious places in the world. It has often been called “The new Prague”, but it is more compact and unspoilt than Prague. We spent 4 days here beginning of May 2005. Krakow is very easy to get around on foot and most sights are within 15 minutes walk of the main market square. |
