Getting TO/AROUND: Taxis are everywhere - blue and while Peugeots - and you will be aware of them as they often slow down to see if you need to use them. They are useful for getting from one end of Luxor to another (should cost around 20 LE - 2 GBP). It can sometimes be annoying in a taxi though, as they try to find out how long you will be at that particular destination so they can pick you up again. We had one taxi driver telling us how long we should be spending at a sight! A final warning - always check what currency you are dealing in - Egyptian pounds and exactly what you are paying for eg. the agreed fee for all passengers and includes getting in and out of the taxi and no hidden surcharges like the agreed price may suddenly turn out to be for getting in but not getting out of the taxi etc .

Getting TO/AROUND: These are horse drawn carriages and are everywhere on the East bank of Luxor. As soon as you leave your hotel you are bound to hear a Kalesh driver shouting for your attention. They can be quite persistant and slow down to catch up with you to try and get you on board, and even if you are walking on the opposite side of the road they still shout out asking if you would like to use their services. They often try to get you to go to the markets with them, where I guess that they have particular stalls they would stop at. If you don’t wish to be bothered tell them that you have already been to all the markets and already purchased all you need. Or, you can always tell them that you have already been on a kalesh several times.

Getting TO/AROUND: The motor boat is an alternative way of getting from the East Bank to the West Bank instead of the tourist ferry. If you go on a tour through your hotel or if you buy a 'package' through a tout on the East Bank, you will often travel on their personal motor boat to the West Bank before eg boarding your taxi.
Beware if taking a private motor boat when ascending and descending - children will meet you to help you on or off and expect a tip in return!
