One week in Paphos

Cyprus is a former British colony and became independent in 1960. Even though Cyprus is in Europe (since May 2004) it’s location is in the Middle East, near Turkey. It’s population is over 784,000. Cyprus has been divided into North and South since 1974 when Turkey invaded the North and since 1983 the North of the island has been known as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

We spent a week in the Southern/Greek part of Cyprus for one week in April/May 2006, based in Paphos. I loved my time here! There was so much to see – we hired a car for 3 days and travelled along the South coast as far as Limassol, the West coast as far as Polis and travelled up the Troodos mountains. We also took a days flight to Cairo during our stay here.
The weather at this time was perfect, lovely and warm, sun every day but not unbearably hot. We would like to return one day to Cyprus to explore the North and also the East.

A great selection of things to do in southwest Cyprus! Beautiful photos and helpful hints as well. That does indeed look like a fab hotel. I was flying out of Cairo in 1974 and decided on Tunisia instead of Cyprus - next day, the Turks invaded!!

Hello Claire! Lovely page on Cyprus. I spent a week there in July with my granddaughter and mainly stayed in the pool area or the beach. I want to go back for more. Happy birthday from Finland!

We stayed in Paphos too on our first visit, and I fell in love with Cyprus. A month or more in Springtime, in a cottage near Polis, that's top of my wish list. leyle
