    • Hovhannavank is a very nice church that is worth of a day trip from Yerevan located in a very picturesque place on the edge of canyon. Unfortunately the pictures can not often convey the beauty of a place and Hovhannavank is a typical case.

    According to the sings the church must be old. Though it is quite obvious that it has been restored (and maybe rebuilt from the scrach) recently. If not counting this the church seems really nice.

    Directions: Church is located about 10 min drive from Ashtarak. From the main road it takes around 15-20 min to get to the church. The church is well signposted.

    • Samsonavank is located further up in the gorge and from the location standpointit is more beautiful than Hovannavank. Though the church is smaller.
