Grandpa passed Wertheim on way to Brooklyn Wertheim was a pleasant small city on our Grand Circle Donau-Main-Rhein cruise. Our interest, however, concerns 1892 when my wife's grandfather left nearby Gamburg-am-Tauber and presumably took the train to Wertheim to make connections north to Bremerhaven. So, it was the beginning of a trip to Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He never returned. We visited pretty Gamburg a few years ago. This time, after touring charming Wertheim, I chose to see a train arrive from Gamburg. Each of the red diesel cars wore a bicycle symbol and twelve people of all ages got off with their bikes. A great way to travel! Presumably, bike to the station. Board the train. Then bike to your destination. Bikeways about, especially along the rivers. |
