New Orleans - Seduction and Desire

by pamstravels - last update: Sep 9, 2005

Old World Charm

French Quarter side street
I was seduced by a temptress named New Orleans. Her slow southern accent mixed with old european charm drew me in like a lover. Hot and steamy and filled with delicious smells (at times) of spicy seafood or baking breads. Voodoo shops, palm readers hawking their services, creative and not-so-creative street performers hoping you will pass them a buck and jazz players with a crowd gathering around. Sleepy gardens behind locked iron gates enticing you with their sweet smelling flowers and cool fountains. Every corner of the French Quarter is exciting and waiting to be discovered.
Salad in a glass

Greenbeans in a Bloody Mary?? Yum!

In New Orleans the restaurants serve Bloody Mary's with spicy pickled greenbeans instead of celery. Upon first getting one, I was a little suprised but dug right in! Fantastic! This beautiful creation was made at the bar at Deanie's Seafood Restaurant.

I loved the green beans so much I purchased a jar from the French Market. I am sure that the local grocery stores would have been cheaper, but we didn't have a car while staying there.
Tourist Couple

Don't sit too long in New Orleans

I first saw this statue on VT member am&pm's New Orlean page and just loved it! So whimsical and a lot of detail. While I was walking through a handbag/tour shop in the French Quarter (sorry, don't know the name of it) I saw my favorite tourist couple tucked in the back of the store with boxes shoved up against it. At first I was so excited to find them, but the shop owner looked down her nose at me, told me that the building had caught on fire and the only thing that survivied was the tourist couple!! Fate if you ask me. It should be dusted off and proudly displayed in the front of the store.
