Oy... | How the homeless live in Tokyo |
Tokyo, you steel jungle, you. You can see and do so much here, but this place isn't for everyone. I'm not really a city girl -- I love breath-taking vistas and not seeing a McDonald's, but still, the place is pretty interesting. For those like me who need some green, there are a lot of parks and temple areas that you can go do for your fix, unfortunately I was there in winter so it was a pretty gray place, but anyway... Japan. Everything here is in order. Everyone has a uniform and even the homeless are organized into certain locations. If you take the Narita Express into Tokyo when you arrive, you may see some tents by the river, and in certain parks you'll see them too, but you won't see them randomly on a city street. I think that's what struck me as so different from every other place I'd been, was how organized and relaxed everyone was... and how quiet everything was. The airport is quiet, outside is quiet, people are quiet, and that was pretty neat... but I would've loved to see some random Japanese guy break the mold and run down the street in a chicken costume. |
