Joshua Tree Nat'l Park

a "Joshua Tree"
Joshua Tree NP is located near Twentynine Palms, California, approximately 140 miles east of Los Angeles. Take Interstate 10 and Hwy 62 (Twentynine Palms Highway) to reach the park from LA.

This is one of my favorite National Parks. Although it first appears a dry, boring desert, the surroundings are magnificent. Sure, there's no spectacular natural wonders like the Grand Canyon. Joshua Tree is just this magical place in the middle of the desert. Coyotes, snakes, and other wildlife prowl througout the desert. Huge boulders are scattered throughout the scenery. So many species of desert plants grow here, with the most famous being the Joshua Tree. Also, there's amazing rock climbing, camping, and hiking.

JT is just this magical, mysterious place to me.
Skull Rock
This massive boulder is aptly named Skull Rock --- just look at its shape.
on top Ryan Mt.
I hiked up Ryan Mountain, the tallest point in the park. The summit is at 5461 ft (1638 m). Not that tall, but seeing as all the surroundings are flat, from this peak you can see everything for miles around. The visibility is incredible
