Now after explaining my fascination with cemetaries, I ought to also tell you that this is one reason why I decided to explore Évora. They have a renowned chapel of bones as well, which I have a travelogue about. Back in school I took an anthropology course on death. Now I never had this weird fascination until then, and I was given a different perspective on how to view it.

I was hoping to catch a funeral in progress at this cemetary, but no such luck availed...

This may seem like an odd activity, but I am attracted to cemetaries of all types, not just those that have any special significance. Now how many of you would spend a big chunk of your afternoon prowling around a cemetary while on vacation? I know, I am a bit odd, but I am sure there's more of you out there who can appreciate my actions...Sometimes, it is the most relaxing and peaceful place you can seek out when trying to escape the bustle of a city.

This beautiful cemetary was between the historic center and the bus station. Take some time to explore the intricate graves, statues, and family vaults in alignment.
