Six Days In PARIS

by BarryAir - last update: Dec 2, 2005

Paris

Luftwaffe Headquarters 1940 (occupied Paris)
Paris is so delightful. I probably see it differently than most people as I look at the historical aspect the most, then the architecture, and then the Art. As a WW2 Aviation Historian I spent a hour sitting at the Luxemborg Palaise imagining the Luftwaffe Headquarters bustling with activity. I can just see Herman Goering on the balcony adressing his troops all standing at attention!
Georges Rodenbach

Georges Rodenbach

While walking thru the Pere Lachaise Cemetary after seeing Jim Morrisons grave we ran across a large pyramid Tomb. Next to there we found a gravesite with a man (bronze statue) busting up thru the lid with a flower in his hand. His name, Georges Rodenbach. I found out that he was a famous writer/poet living in Paris around 1890 and wrote a great novel called Bruges-la-Morte. I am ordering the book as it sounds really interesting from what I have read on the net about it. If you visit the D'Orsay Museum, be sure to look for Georges Rodenbach portrait hanging on the wall
Point Zero

Point Zero France

Point Zero is where all distances in France are measured from. The plaque is in front of Notra Dame Cathredral in the large courtyard.

Le Bourget must've been a heavenly place for an historian like you, Barry! Wonderful photos of the planes, my friend. :) Glad you had such a great time in Paris. (put those skulls back, Barry - they're not meant for music) ;)
