Amsterdam, the "life" of the continent

by Upstate1NY - last update: Aug 3, 2004

City of "preferace" as a tourist distination

A "working" Windmill
The truely "quintessential" image of The Netherlands. The Dutch have never been afraid of hard work, especially when that work was multiplied in its return, energy for effort. Along the coastline, wind is "free", it came with the "territory". It is the "value for value" thinking that has set the "tone" for Dutch reasoning and their image as "driving a hard bargin".
Windmills have been "THE" image of "Holland" (The Netherlands) for as long as any of us can remember!
One canal, six bridges!

Amsterdam, canals, canals, canals

If Windmills are the "image" of "Holland" then canals are the image of Amsterdam..
But I decided that even with as many canals as it has, there are at least 10 times as many bridges as canals(of necessity, of course!).

You sound like a real jerk.

You are confusing the Oude Kerk and the Nieuwe Kerk here. It is the Nieuwe Kerk that houses the World Press Photography exhibition, and indeed, it is no longer a church, just a building that looks like one :-)

Thanks for the info. Sounds good to me. Another reason to move to Holland -- no right-wing irritants telling me how to live my life because they have a bible that tells them so.
