This International wonder sits on the border of the USA and Canada and can be viewed from either side. There are three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls: American and Bridal Veil Falls in the US, and Horseshoe Falls in Canada. With over 750,000 gallons of water pouring over the crests of all three PER SECOND, this is truly a spectacular work of nature!
As with any popular tourist destination, it can get crowded here. I prefer to visit in late Autumn or early Spring to avoid the elbow bumping crowds. Aside from the falls, there are other touristy things to do...like gamble. There are two casinos on the Canadian side (Niagara Fallsview and Casino Niagara) and one on the American Side which is run by the Seneca Nation of Native Americans. If you are traveling with children, you can head to Clifton Hill. This has to be the tackiest street in North America...full of cheesy "museums", haunted houses, and arcades. Of course, make sure your wallet is good and full when visiting. Even a quick lunch is going to cost you a fortune!!
There are many activities that will get you up close to the falls. This is what you should spend your money on. You can ride the Maid of the Mist which will take you right to the base of Horseshoe Falls and won't break the bank! Take an elevator to the base at Journey behind the Falls (Canada) or Cave of the Winds (U.S.). There is also the Niagara Whirlpool where you can ride the aero car OVER the whirlpool, walk the rapids boardwalk, or ride the whirlpool jet boat.

xclent tips with lots of personal point of view. will come in handy during my family's long weekends excursion to the falls and vicinity beginning spring 2008.
Help me Jen! How many days do I need to visit all this? Or will 2 days for the falls do?!!! Love all those tourist traps, might fall for it anyway.... great travelogue as well! Greetings, Linda
Ethan looks hilarious in that mist shot. I'm still chuckling at your tips ;)
Excellent coverage of Niagara Falls. Thorough, detailed, descriptive, interesting, helpful, and truthful. Loved the 12 Tourist Trap tips. Some fantastic photos, especially of What to See.
Amazing collection of tourist traps! The falls themselves are great, though. I once spent most of a day sitting on a park bench reading a book and looking up at the falls between paragraphs. Don't know if that would still be possible today.
It seems we visited the same places on our trip to Niagara Falls--we traveled there with our grandson and just loved it--he had a great time!!!
Thanks for sharing, and some good tips too.... I think i need to visit the fall now, I'm in NY in March so hopefully then
Hi Jen. Great Site... I have not been able to travel for the past year, and no promise for the immedidate future due to a bad back injury. So I have no idea what ever happened to the family I met in Phuket.. Cheers B-out
