Small, Isolated, Enchanting.... This National Park may be the smallest of Canada's 42 national parks, but it is home to more threatened and endangered species of plants and animals then any other park in the country.
By the late 1960's, orchards, fisheries, farms, and almost a million visitors per year impacted the park's ecosystem so much that it almost lost it's national park status. Since then, private land was purchased, buildings were removed, and more than 50% of the park's dryland habitats were restored.
This is mainland Canada's most southernly point...a sandspit surrounded by the cool waters of Lake Erie. Pristine beaches, miles of hiking and biking trails, acres of marshland, and a visitors center for information are yours to enjoy at this magnificent outdoor destination!

Faiza-Ifrah Sat Jan 31, 2009 03:51 UTC nice tips that have given us good information for our planned april and may trips. | spitball Sun Nov 5, 2006 23:40 UTC Great tips on Point Pelee. I haven't made it here just yet, it looks nice. | Babzz Sun Aug 6, 2006 21:07 UTC Excellent tip about EAB. Good to make visitors aware of this serious pest! Not all the ticks carry lime disease, only deer ticks (not the bigger ones). Still, it's no fun getting one embedded in your skin! :) | Bwana_Brown Wed May 24, 2006 02:33 UTC Nice perspectives looking both ways from the southern tip of Canada! Point Pelee NP looks like a birdwatcher's paradise - one of my favourite pastimes! |
