In 1880, geologist Clarence Dutton explored this little known area of canyons and plateaus. His words sum it up better than mine ever could.
" There is an eloquence to their forms which stirs the imagination with a singular power and kindles in the mind...a glowing response....Nothing can exceed the wondrous beauty of Zion....in the nobility of the sculptures there is no comparison." |
| | Geologic Wonders Nesteled in the Southwest corner of Utah lies Zion National Park. It is a deep and narrow canyon which is explored from the floor up. Along the bottom is the Virgin River which, almost by itself, carved this massive gorge more than 13 million years ago. In some places, it looks like a creek so, it's hard to believe, but when it rains, IT POURS in Zion! Take the time to see as much of its 229 square miles of wilderness as you can. An eight hour hike can go by pretty fast here! |
