Carved by the Mississippi, giving it its crescent shape, New Orleans is an indefinable treasure of a city. More than jazz and Mardi Gras, the charm radiates well outside of the French Quarter. The carefree ambiance will force you to relax and discover it, street by street.
In 1718, new Orleans was a French Settlement. In 1762, it was conquered by the Spanish. France regained control in 1800 only to sell it to the U.S. in 1803! This is where it gets its flavor!!
The French Quarter is the oldest neighborhood in new Orleans. It is adorned with European flavor.....narrow streets, Mediterranean inspired colors, and intricate ironwork balconies. It is a feast for the senses with music seeping out into the streets, cuisine from the finest seafood to the street vended po' boy. There is something for everybody in New Orleans! |
| | Around every corner.... ......you will see the unique qualities that make New Orleans special. Gaslights are always burning whether they are mounted on a wall or hanging overhead along the sidewalks. Many street corners bear the original tile signs from when this was the capital of the Spanish Province of Louisiana. |
| Cooling off in the Aquarium |
| | What to do when it gets too hot! If the heat and humidity is getting to your youngster, there are plenty of indoor activities to keep everyone happy. One is the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. It is a really great aquarium with examples of sea life from all over the world! Next door is an I-Max theatre. You can do it all at once or save one for later! |

Nemorino Thu Dec 13, 2007 10:20 UTC Happy birthday, Jen! -- Interesting tips here on (pre-Katrina) New Orleans. I never would have expected to find a D-Day Museum there. | vicksanders Mon Jan 1, 2007 08:29 UTC The Cafe Du Monde is great and in a really good location. The tombone player and guitar/bango duo is a MUST SEE. Those guys are awesome. They usually play on Tues, Weds and Sun. DO NOT use the restrooms at the Cafe as they are an absolute disgrace. | littlesam1 Sun Sep 10, 2006 14:20 UTC I love this city so much and its make me so sad to think of it as it is today.
