Local Customs: Dutch Greeting Kisses

  • In Holland (like in most European countries) it is common to greet people with kisses. Here, it is THREE times! Example: Left cheek, right cheek, then left cheek again!!
    I think Americans should adopt a custom such as this!!!

  • Although I tried to learn the basics before visiting....Dutch isn't the easiest to speak! I tried, but was interrupted with "Please! Stop butchering my language!!!" I have never been anywhere more friendly! People are willing to speak to Americans!! How novel!! Seriously, I was very impressed how polite everyone I came in contact was!! I wasn't expecting worse...just relieved I wasn't ever treated poorly because of my language skills!!!

     No question about it; Amsterdam (The Netherlands) is the best place to start a tour of Europe. There is NO language barrier because of English fluency among the population. More important, they WANT to practice their English.

     a nice page bringing back great memories. Dog-poo may be found at many cities in Europe unfortunately, but people start to change that (hopefully soon...)
