Getting TO/AROUND: From Schipol, you can get anywhere in Holland by train. For 3.40 EURO you can get to Centraal Station in Amsterdam. It takes about 20 minutes. There are two types of ticket machines.....the older ones, which are all in Dutch but have English directions (confusing and at the top of the machine)and takes ONLY coins...no paper bills! The other machine is for credit card users and is a touch screen with your choice of languages!

Getting TO/AROUND: Trams cost 1.60 EURO and this fare is paid to the driver. You could hop on and hop off without paying if it's crowded, but you can go to jail for doing it! Why take the chance! This is a quick and easy way to get around Amsterdam. There are tram maps everywhere and they run often!

Getting TO/AROUND: There are MANY places around town to rent a bike. There are bike lanes on all roads....bikes are EVERYWHERE!! This is probably the easiest way to get around, but it looks a bit dangerous with all the other bikes around....and sharing the lane with motor bikes! It seems for every automobile there are 10 bicycles!

No question about it; Amsterdam (The Netherlands) is the best place to start a tour of Europe. There is NO language barrier because of English fluency among the population. More important, they WANT to practice their English.

a nice page bringing back great memories. Dog-poo may be found at many cities in Europe unfortunately, but people start to change that (hopefully soon...)
