  • In Hyde Park, close to Kensington Gardens, there is a great playground in the theme of Peter Pan. There is an Indian Village, Pirate Ship, and mermaid fountain! Great place for kids to run off extra energy. There is a cafe next to it.....offering parents a resbit from a hectic day of sightseeing. You can also use it to bribe them if they are getting bored walking the gardens! If you are staying in the Bayswater or Notting Hill area, this is a great place to unwind!

  • Sunday mornings in the Marble Arch area of Hyde Park, people gather to stand on their soap boxes (or ladders) and speak their mind. This was great fun! There was a lot of anti-war sentiment as well as people spouting off about nothing in particular.
Some just walk around in a sandwich board expressing their views! Be careful, some people expect tips when you take a photo!!

  • This is a great place to take a break. Sit, people watch, enjoy the architecture, and let the kids climb on the lions at the base of Nelson's column. To the North of the square is the National Gallery, which houses one of the richest collections of paintings in the world. To the East is St. Martin in the Fields (which is home to one of my favorite orchestras). Canada House is on the west side.....Canadian visitors can read Canadian newspapers and check their e-mail here!!

    Buckingham Palace: Pomp and Circumstance

  • We stumbled upon the changing of the guard...which, apparently takes place at 11.30 every morning. No trip to London is complete without a look at Buckingham Palace. If anything, the changing of the guard was worth us seing because we don't have that kind of thing in the US. It was good for Ethan to experience the pomp and circumstance that goes hand in hand with royalty! The crowds are almost unbearable and full of people willing to push children out of the way for a photo!

  • It was nice to walk past the Palace without bumping into anyone! Even St. James' Park was empty. I am glad we decided to walk by here well AFTER the changing of the guard.

  • After a long day of walking and sightseeing, I promised Ethan some time for kids stuff. This complex houses restaurants, shops, cinemas and bars. It also has "Funland" - a bowling alley, pool hall, simulator rides, and video games. Not the greatest fun for me, but worth it to keep him happy!

  • Busy and colorful, High Street is the place for street fashion, shoes, laid back pubs, and great people watching. Up by the canal is Camden Lock Market which seems to focus more on ethnic goods (including food) and crafts. Many winding alleys to wander through.

But like don't they have an alternative to the Wahoo, like a big letter C or something? Even the Orioles have an alternative to their stupid bird hats. Wahoo would look worse pink, that's true.
