  • On Sundays from 7am to 1pm, every peddler from Trastevere and the surrounding Castelli Romani sets up a temporary shop at the sprawling Porta Portese open-air flea market. The vendors are likely to sell merchandise ranging from secondhand paintings of Madonnas and termite-eaten Il Duce wooden medallions, to pseudo-Etruscan hairpins, bushels of rosaries, 1947 TVs, and books printed in 1835. Serious shoppers can often ferret out a good buy. If you've ever been impressed with the bargaining power of the Spaniard, you haven't seen anything till you've bartered with an Italian. By 10:30am the market is full of people. As at any street market, beware of pickpockets! Porta Portese is located near the end of Viale Trastevere, very close to the Tevere river. • One of the reasons why ancient Rome became famous is for the quality of its water and for its abundance. The merit goes all to the Roman architects and thir ability in construction. When the water of the wells was not sufficient any more, they found a solution in constructing aqueducts to bring water from the hills. From the IV century a.C., of the aqueducts of the underground water or "tiberine" enjoyed abundant water until the coming of the Goti in the VI century.
Water was used for the public fountains, for privates and for thermal bath. Such equipment, suitable for the idrogeological character of the hill and mountain territory around Rome, was also a direct result of the extraordinary ability acquired regarding hydraulic engineering of the Romans, using the knowledge they acquired from their teachers, the Ethruscans.
Provided with the elementary instruments, with sharp pickax and refined orientation paths, Roman engineers were sublime in conducting water to Rome, even from remote places, sometimes passing the mountains and digging valleys.

  • This is a very special place where you can have dinner, drinks and listen to some good live music. It is located just few km out of Rome and it's not easy to find if you don't really know how to get there, but it attracts a lot of people everyday! Its peculiarity is that a lot of motorbikers have chosen this spot as their favourite meeting point , so you'll see several models of Harley, Triumph or similar kinds of motorbikes.
This large, wood-furnished pub offers a vast choice of beers and simple Italian dishes as well as daily live music.
Everything's beautiful, and I would add a special mention to the nice girls serving at the bar!!!
The pub is in Via Appia Nuova, Km19, near the "Palaghiaccio" (the ice skating rink of Marino, Rome)

Taverna Trilussa is just amazing. I agree...I loved the Ravioli Mimosa and the buffalomozzarella and everything else too. I went there three evenings in a row. love that place and will soon go back.
