Nightlife Spot: General information

Rome may not be the hippest of capitals, but for those who know the right places, it is possible to party all night. Dolce Vita's days are far away but Romans still love to go out late and the fun only really commences after dinner. The wine-bars and caf?s lying between Campo de? Fiori, Piazza Navona and Via della Pace are the places to be seen. Irish pubs are also popular with Italians and expatriates, and can be a good place for a fun and informal night out. The biggest concentration of nightclubs lie in the Testaccio and Ostiense districts. One of the main drags in Testaccio, Via di Monte Testaccio, is literally lined with bars, pubs, live music venues and clubs. In Ostiense the scene has taken off in recent years and this is where to find some of the hippest new bars and so-called ristodisco, places where you can both eat and dance.

Nightlife Spot: Joia cafe'

In the heart of Testaccio area, you find this nice music restaurant, with a small dance floor, a piano bar on the 1st floor and a small restaurant on the roof garden, wich in the late hour becomes a dance floor as well.
Joia cafe' it's one of new trend of romans, and it is possible to queue for a long time outside before getting in. Dance Music is very good and the drinks are delicious!

Nightlife Spot: Jonathan Angel

Jonathan's Angels in Via dell Fossa is worth a visit for the bizarrely-decorated toilets alone, let alone the amicable avant-garde atmosphere and great cocktails. The whole, small room is decorated with paintings made by the pictoresque owner, who is always sitting at the counter welcoming the guests! You can enjoy and dance good music played by the resident dj and, if you wish to know something about your future, there is also a fortune-teller available (by paying) to read your hand.!

Nightlife Spot: Goa's Club

This place features a constantly-changing ethnic-style disco that has become increasingly popular over the last few years: house, jungle, hip hop and tribal music are compulsory sounds. Perhaps it is the best known club at the moment . GOA’s probably the closest thing to a NYC club over here.
On Sundays, there are the rhythms of the surfin' and happenin' 'Surf Revolt'. Gay night is on Tuesdays. The disco can hold up to 700 people with a central bar that is surrounded by sofas.

Nightlife Spot: Freni & Frizioni bar

A bar housed in a former garage - hence the name (Breaks and Clutches). Just accross the bridge into Trastevere this small bar spills out into a little square, with candles burning and throngs of good looing people perched on the wall surrounding the square. The bar had a real buzz, which is what first draws the attention from the bottom of the steps, I found it to be a really friendly little bar with a good mix of patrons, the staff were friendly too and only too happy to help.
Cocktails are a speciality and the Mojitos were amazing especially on a hot summers evening - the whole cocktail list looked fantastic and there seemed a good wine list too, although regretably I didn't sample any. There was also a very tempting buffet on offer which looked much better than the 2nd rate tourist crap I'd just eaten.
The decor of the place was a juxtopisition between the futuristic and reclaimed which created a unique ambience.

Nightlife Spot: Habana

Welcome to this exotic corner located at walking distance from the Pantheon. Habana is a small and friendly pub with an spirit that is overwhelming. In the first room, the bar, you can try one of the many tropical cocktails (cuba libre, mojito, caipirinha and many others) together with a sandwich or other snacks offered at the bar.
The second main room, if you manage to get there, is the entertainment room and its where the dance floor and the stage are situated. Live music rock and pop covers are played on Friday and Saturday nights followed by dancemusic that goes on until closing time.

Nightlife Spot: Radio Londra

Radio Londra attracts since 10 years a unique crowd of people who express themselves in any number of ways, including outlandish clothing and body piercings. The music is vibrant, and the crowd is vivacious. Four nights a week, Radio Londra usually sponsors live music, and sometimes bands entertain at the pub and pizzeria located above the dance floors.
Radio Londra is found in a bunker dug out of a hill, with military style furnishings and fighting equipment hung up everywhere.

Located in a secret location, this bar is situated just behind Piazza Navona. You'd be lucky if you can find this bar easily! Usually filled with young local people, this bar has amazing cocktails.You can enjoy free buffet of late-night nibbles here.

Nightlife Spot: Big Hilda Cafe'

This little pub is located in the heart of Trastevere and it is always full of people (not only because is little!). The good quality of the beer attracts a lot of guests, but also the friendly manners of the staff and the special atmosphere you feel here give an important contribute to the success of this place.
An other significant point is that Big Gilda is in a strategic position, where people use to stroll frequently. Sometime you can also enjoy (it seems impossible for the limited space) live music!

Nightlife Spot: Circolo degli Artisti

The Circolo degli Artisti (artists circle) is the house of art and music underground live scene, with electronic music, hip hop, rock and other creative performances. There are two concert rooms, a dancefloor outfitted with a great sound system, a place for video projection, a pub and a pizzeria serving roman style pizza. This place is open until late, and the entrance fee varies according to the performance. Always crowded and visited by different kind of people.
