Went 1974 with a mate.The old 6 hr+ ferry from Harwich. Then 2 hrs on the train.Had booked the Hotel Eureka (20 glds) its still there cross form the Munt.Hell of a job to find it. The room was a broom cupboard. The toilet along the hall had a leaking systen.The manager said,here is your one key for 2 persons,if you lose it dont knock as I wont answer!! Breakfast was one bread roll,plastic cheese.Smallest pat of butter Ive ever seen. At least the coffee was strong and hot,but only 2 small cups.When I asked for more, got the same reply Oliver Twist did.!!! But the town was something else..to be continued. |
