Amman

Roman Amphitheatre
I visited Amman on business and left saying "I have to come back', mainly because I didn't have time to get to Petra. It was nice to see some ancient Roman ruins and to be able to afford lunch without spending an arm and a leg to do the sam ething in Rome!

Amman is a pleasant city to be in, big enough to do things, yet not too big to feel oppressive. You can get anywhere in the city (and country for that matter), by cab. Just don't let the cabbies take you for a ride- negotiate the fare ahead of time, even though some of them have meters. I don't think I paid the same price twice for any trip to the same location.
