A Very Majestic Mountain | Mount Hood looming over farmland |
My journey to Mt. Hood produced a more than expected "wow" experience for me. It cannot be imagined the beauty or immensity of this volcano, or the splendid feelings of me being such a small part of this world when seeing this Cascade jewel for the first time.
Take the loop around the base, beginning in Portland. Take in the sights along the Columbia River gorge on 84 W, then take 35, then route 35 south to the connection of route 26 east. This route will allow you the opportunity to see all sides of Mt. Hood, with off-shoot roads that allow for further exploring. Get a good map, wear sturdy shoes and even in the summer have a jacket or sweatshirt as the cool mountain breezes can be chilly in the shade. And - don't forget the camera!
