Bayeux and D-Day Landing Beaches info Bayeux is centrally located to the D-Day landing beaches. Full of historical architecture, Bayeux was spared the wrath of bombing and destruction suffered over many parts of Normandy during the Allied Invasion. The Notre Dame of Bayeux and the Tapestry depicting the story of the Norman's Conquest are the top sights to see. Great place to base for trips to landing beaches, battle sites, and museums. Driving through the region is easy with a road map, and villages on the journey make for pleasant vistas along the way. I found the Norman people to be much more welcoming and outgoing than in Paris - no surprise there - and enjoyed the shops and architecture in Bayeux. My favorite memory is of a young couple that we met, who own a small sandwich/ice cream shop in the central part of old Bayeux. They were extrememly helpful and outgoing, and really added to our experience. |
