In a very nearly literal sense, Canada is a "stone's throw" from my home. It is so close and so familiar, in fact, that it is easy for me to forget that traveling there is an international trip. This perception quickly faded when we entered the Province of Quebec. Montreal is actually the second largest French speaking city in the world behind only Paris and, as such, definitely feels like another place.
I had traveled to Montreal twice before. Once on business (which hardly counts) and once thirty-eight years ago for Expo '67. This time, traveling with Carol, we were on a much more exploratory adventure. We would, of course, see some of the "big" stuff but we were really more interested in the local culture, the neighborhoods and the day to day life...or, as the song says, "Que sera sera..."!
