Lugano, Switzerland

City of Lugano from across Lake Lugano
We were spending a week on Lake Como in a small town only about 24 km from Lugano, Switzerland so we decided that a day trip was in order. From what I had read Lugano was a small city of about 50,000 people set on a beautiful lake surrounded by wonderful mountains. All true. What we didn't count on was that this city was Switzerland's third largest banking center making it very busy and because of its limited available land, being compacted at the base of the mountains, it felt very congested.

After driving around the spectacular almost Parisian looking city center in circles trying without success to find a place to park we decided to forgo the urban experience and head for the mountains. We were off to Monte Brč.

Definitively a place that I must visit more often. Mountains, lake, funicuar and sun , my favorite Swiss cocktail ;-)

I like the look of that red & gilt funicular. Someday I'll get to Lugano and try it out. Glad to help out with Israel tips - where does this 8th grade class hail from?

Nice glimpses of Lugano. Too bad you didn't have more time there. I was there once many years ago (and did NOT forget my hiking boots, I'm happy to say), and had some good walks with great views. (The writer Hermann Hesse used to live near here.)

The Funicalore looks fun - and I've always had a real affinity with donkeys.
