"Is This Sicily?" Agrigento by tpal

Agrigento Travel Guide: 152 reviews and 291 photos

If you have not read about the history of Sicily, a visit to Agrigento will have you believing that you have been transported to ancient Greece. In fact Agrigento was settled by the Greeks in 580 BC. The Valley of the Temples is home to numerous Greek ruins, many of which are very well preserved. This should be a major stop on any trip to Sicily.

The Temple of Concord looks a great place, yes it is easy to forget that the Greeks had Italy before the Romans did!

Despite what I call the Holy Trinity of tourist cities (Roma, Firenze & Venezia) being in the north the south & Sicilia also appeal greatly to me. Love that history. The Normans also ruled Sicily for some 400 years I believe.

Sicilia has more Greek ruins than Greece ! Actually it is another Greece but now speaking Italian. Your "ant street" is a good find !
