Beautiful and Upscale

Our visit to Bellagio (pronounced (as we instructed repeatedly) bee-laaaaa-gee-o) was the second half a ferry boat day-trip starting in Varenna. We absolutely loved Varenna but were anxious to see the town which seemed to hold the signature title for Lake Como. As we disembarked we were immediately aware, "This is a busy place!".

We had a very pleasant lunch along the waters edge for about 23 euros. After lunch, as always it was time to explore. As we walked along Piazza Mazzini and began to realize this is beautiful but definitely not quaint. The shops and ristoranti were very upscale.

We walked along until we happened upon a "pretty good exquisite" hotel, the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni. Deciding we could pass for guests we took a walk through. Very beautiful and very fancy and very much not Tom & Carol. We did discover, however, that part of their grounds included a very extensive garden well worth a stroll.

As we continued our tour through town, one overriding mantra became evident. "You must shop!" Maybe its just our nature or maybe we were jaded from our earlier visit to Varenna, but as I left Bellagio it was more with anticipation for what was next than with regret for a very brief stay.

It looks beautiful , we are going to Lake Lugano in Sept 2009 but will spend alot of time around Lago di Como..Thanks for sharing

Beautiful pages on Italy, and especially of Laga di Como!!! I must go someday!
