I totally fell in love with this lake/town which is at the Alberta/Saskatchewan border. It's about a three hour drive North East of Edmonton.The lake is huge and as the lake indicates it can be quite cold..However, the beaches are wonderful and the pic above features one of the most beautiful spots at French Bay.
The town of Cold Lake is quite spread apart with one half close to the lake and the other one up the hill where the Canadian Forces Airbase is. The base is open to visitors and it is fun to see all the various planes take off for Sorties.

Totempoles

...which can be found at the entrance of Cold Lake's beautiful Marina.
Two reserves border onto the lake, The Dene and the Cree Nations rez.

Kinooso Beach

..is approx. 10 minutes north of the marina. A beautiful gorgeous beach which is not overrun by tourists. It has a playground for the kids and Volleyball nets are up as well. Great place to be..
Kinooso is the Cree word for Big Fish and the legend of the fish as well as the history of Cold Lake according to the Cree is on my French Bay Tip Page..

I can vouch for the fishing on Cold Lake. The largest lake trout in the province was taken here.
