Edmonton: Provincial Capital

Edmonton in its splendour
Well, Edmonton is right next door to my little hometown and in 1984 I actually lived downtown for a few months..Edmonton has many things to offer and is worth a visit..More than one..:)

Since its proximity to St. Albert I have tons of picture of our Provincial capital so I was debating which one to use. Which one would reflect Edmonton the best and do it justice??? So instead I decided to use this postcard as it features all the major attractions..:) But- of course I will post individual pics soon..
Edmonton has the best River Valley Park I have ever encountered and the ravines that go with it are fabulous. There are many to explore, like the Mill Creek Ravine ( see my tips) on the Southside and the Kinnaird Ravine just off Jasper Avenue Eastbound.
Edmonton is also a city of many festivals and I think there is one for everyone to enjoy. I am quite fond of the Heritage Festival and the Giovanni Caboto one..
If you are interested in Native culture there are a few pow-wows on the nearby reserves you can attend.
Waterfall

Highlevel Bridge Waterfall

..to be seen on Holidays....
The pipes that run along the outsides of he bridge are opened and the water flows straight into the North Saskatchewan River. During this event the bridge is open for traffic and it's fun to drive through..
Skyline

City Skyline

The most beautiful view of Edmonton's skyline is on Saskatchewan Drive or coming down 99 St. This picture was taken in 2004 at the Muttard Conservatory.

Wow – neat to know there’s a place I could have a Hungarian Goulash at, in Edmonton – looking forward to a stop there in May – very useful tip!! Cheers, Marina
