"Chateau de Chenonceaux" Chenonceau by Hanau93

Chenonceau Travel Guide: 153 reviews and 428 photos

Le chateau de Chenonceau is one of the most visited castles of France and ranks in popularity number two behind magnificent Versailles. To compare Versailles and Chenonceau would be like comparing apples to oranges. They each truly have their own charm. Chenonceau is mostly surrounded by water ( the smell of it even lingers inside) as it is built on the river Cher. Women had quite a hand in its construction and beauty as it was built in 1513 by Katherine Briçonnet, then made even more attractive by Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Médici, and saved from the rigours of the French Revolution by Mrs Dupin. Girlpower!!

The formal garden is fantastic and we spent quite a while in there. I was most impressed by it! to this day I wish I would have been able to see more Loire castles..
