I always felt that Pasadena was the city of roses but Portland says they are and after two days, I believe them. I love this town and wish that I could have spent more time there.
Any city which is interested in making travelers feel more welcome should send their planning boards, city councils, or whoever makes such decisions to Portland. I am sure that there are others similarly situated but I cannot recall any at the moment. Portland has the most well-integrated transportation systems of any city that I can recall. By comparison, it seems that most cities plan their air, bus, rail, and taxi interfaces to maximize revenue for the taxi industry. On the other hand, Portland seems to have made a concentrated effort to make moving into, around, and through their city as painless as possible.
They claim, and it is easy to believe, that they have the most parks of any city of comparable size in the country. In community development, my hometown is often compared to Portland and, although I dearly love Charlotte, our leaders could learn a lot from what is happening in Portland. |
