"Heart of Industrial Northern New Jersey" Bayonne by etfromnc

When most Americans hear the name "Bayonne, New Jersey," we probably think of a less-than-enrapturing industrial town in northern New Jersey with very little to attract the 21st Century tourist. Until just a few days ago, I would have thought the same thing. Since interstates and turnpikes run through it, I have probably literally been through Bayonne many times but my only actual memory of being there was when I dropped off my car at the military terminal there before I moved to the island of Crete many, many years ago.
If you have read my New York City page, you may remember that I try to really concentrate on one or two things when I am there because I really want to get to know what I see, not just take a picture and head for the next site on my list. I received an e-mail last week which raised Bayonne to the top of my list for my next trip to the New York City area.
