"Halfway home?" Lumberton by etfromnc

Lumberton -- the halfway point between New York and Florida on Interstate 95. Their Visitors Bureau claims 22 hotels and 80 restaurants along the interstate corridor between exits 17 and 22. My experience with two of those 22 motels was disappointing the last two times that I tried to spend a weekend in the area. I worked in the area one summer while I was in college and have many memories -- both good and challenging. The Lumber River winds through downtown Lumberton and is the only North Carolina black water river to earn federal designation as a National Wild and Scenic River. Paddling a kayak or canoe on the River can be a very pleasant experience.
