Irpen

A Small City Near Kyiv

Irpen is a small city about 30 miles outside Kyiv, toward Chernobyl. I had the distinct pleasure of spending about ten days helping in a pharmacy there in the summer of 2004. The medical team of which I was a part was an outstanding group of physicians, dentists, nurses, and others who both accomplished and learned a lot. I also had a very interesting taste of politics while we were there. Please also check out my trip to the market.

I miss it more all the time

There is very much a part of me which loves the lifestyle here. It is "relaxed" and people oriented; it is not work driven like in the States. One of the most amazing things is that so many elderly people are up and out and very much mobile. It's sad when I think about the States where so many of the older people are in nursing homes. Here they are very much a part of society.

What wonderful pieces of writing you've got here. It's a pity you haven't included more tips! Yes, open air markets are a great place to observe locals. Bth, thanks for your kind comment and ratings.
