"Don't Dare Tell Anyone about This Beautiful Place" Ohrid by etfromnc

A substantial portion of the VT Euromeet was held here last spring and I still am not ready to try to describe the joy that this week held but I do want to share two pictures taken by MacedonianUK, a native of Macedonia and the one most responsible for the joys of this meeting, having done the vast majority of the work to put the meeting together. They were both taken during the farewell party for this delightful event. Even after this sendoff, about a dozen of us spent the next week touring Macedonia together.

Farewell dinner for the Euromeet

The spiritual heart of Macedonia is three road hours west of the capital city of Skopje at Ohrid which is a lovely town with a medieval castle overlooking church-lined hilly streets and the lush coastline of Lake Ohrid. Private rooms are relatively easy to find for €10 euro or less, while opulent historic villas turned into B&Bs run for under €50 (US$71.50). Bus services run to sites along the lake coast, including Galičica National Park with hiking, boating and swimming spots.
