A Dream Comes True

by Manyana - last update: Oct 19, 2007

a travel wish...

the Gate to Opportunities
i always dreamed to visit this town, for what i heard about it; friendly people, open and liberal town, the origin of freedom and human rights campaigns, and all these promises of living the possibilities of having a wonderful life. Nothing is impossible. you are in San Francisco

culture

more in depth and honestly, i wanted to explore the history and the current atmosphere and lifestyle of the San Fransicans. i wanted to dig deeper on the possibility of moving to a new world, at the other side of the 'known' world, far away and away, and just living a fairytale. it's the land of the possibilities - the american dream??

but it's turned to be that not all of my thoughts and dream obsessions can be true, mostly they were surreal; to be fair it was a 50-50 deal. All men are gay and all women are feminist - that's San Francisco seems to be.

you can find loads of women's organisations and human rights campaigns and feminist activities going on, which is superb yes. but i don't think that i want to indulge living by group expectations all the time.

you can find many and many men couples walking hand in hand, soft and macho, drag queens and bald big handsome guys kissing, cuddling, whispering, flirting, or just having a laid back down the Castro. it's all wonderful to see how they can live 'normally' and in peace. but again, very interesting to know that the state itself doesn't allow gay marriage (only domestic partnership is legal), and again San Francisco is too manly for me.

in general and perhaps, i would come and visit SF again in the future. i like wandering in big towns, going to theatres and shows, and doing as many touristy things as possible. maybe SF hasn't offered me as much, but its friendliness weighs out everything else missing. it's icon of progressiveness and liberation. it's the symbol of fearlessness and courage. and that is enough said. this is the city where hearts get tied up in love regardless of all the challenges. it's the city of hearts
