al-Baladia route and other Jiddah, Saudi Arabia Transportation Tips

Getting TO/AROUND: in the entire jeddah, there is only one route, called Khat al Baladia or Baladia route. That drives you from down south Jeddah to up north, no rights or lefts. They are those small buses of 30-45 passengers, not something fancy.

exclusive: they only accommodate mainly non-saudis
coloured: white and orange lines to distinguish
layout: broken and open windows at all times, no airconditioners
seats: for men only, and unmaintained of course
bus stops: not available throughout the route. you just wave and the driver stops
fees: SR2 as far as i know, though i doubt if it deserves a free fee, they should pay the messenger actually!

oh this bus route is just *....*!

should take a pic of it really......it's a jeddawi heritage!

Getting TO/AROUND: they come in all shapes and sizes those white jeddawi taxis. drivers come mainly from south asia though saudis start to take on this job.

taxis are cheap compared to london, of course! there's no counter, so you can always negotiate and make a deal. the longest journey should cost you SR70 and that's 3-hour of getting dizzy around jeddah! you can have a deal with a driver to drive you around on a weekly or monthly basis, no minimum at this, so make your own deal.

cautions:
taxi drivers are the worst in driving. most accidents are due to bad taxi driving
be careful, if you are a woman by your own or a vulnerable man hehe!. i heard stories about taxi drivers in those small alleys at nights:s
if you are a tourist, they may overcharge you, so bargain!
many drivers don't know the routes, so be prepared to know your own address

Getting TO/AROUND: yes, they are individual cars and majari cars that clean up the sewege and drainage system of houses, and water cars. at least there are two cars per family and one majar Icar per 5 houses,lol. once i read that there are around 20,000 of the latter driving around jeddah with their stunning smell:p

there are also the tahlia or refined water trucks. many houses suffer from the lack of tap water so they just hire one of these cars to transfer water to the tanks at the basement of their houses.

i know these cars are not for transportation but still part of jeddah transportation, jeddah sightseeing;^) well something to contemplate at hehe
