  • Although Jeddah is an astonishing city to live and work in, in some seasons, it can give you a hard time. When it rains, when suddenly electricity goes off for hours, or when storms blow things away.
Jeddah has a poor drainage system. So it drowns when it rains although it's only one season in the whole year. Also, it doesn't have any alert system if a dusty storm is on the way. Watch out!Sometimes, trees may fall across a street.

  • jeddah is quite a big city with an estimated population of 3,000,000 people. however, there's no proper system of transportation; one of the main complaints visitors often make about jeddah. traffic is getting more congested and very busy. a 10-min journey may take up to 30 minutes. since the petrol is cheap and car rental is very affordable, everyone has got a car!
there's only one bus route between North and South Jeddah, via Medina Road, but it's only for men and it's not quite handy. it's really difficult to get around the city without a car, as you cannot walk. streets are quite big and wide for pedestrian.

    Warnings Or Dangers: Phone dating
  • Tip Rating:

  • let's say 99.9% of the population live on phones. this means you seldom see an individual without a phone in their hand. due to the excess and easy access to having a phone, ten-year-old children walk around with handsets. this excess has reached the limit to do phone dating and that literally means to dial any number and start to talk to the other person on the other end!
i hate this to the fullest. as soon as i get a *new* number, few days later, a strange called early morning and it turned to be a wrong number he had dialed, which was mine. after that, he just kept calling and calling for the next few days, in mornings, evenings and even late night. it's really annoying. it has happened many times, especially if you are a woman and the caller is a man! however, some people do respond to such calls and start to date on phone. i know friends of mine have done it! some were successful and others were just passing time.
you gotta choose for yourself which phone you want to go along with. personally, i just remark these so-called callers as X, so i won't bother to pick up when they call again. very annoying.

Traffic & Roads: Ramadan traffic is unbearable
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • watch out for the traffic jam during the holy month of Ramadan. it's just beyond your imagination. all those who never leave their home get to leave it in ramadan! as the working day is shorter, starts late and finishes early, so all people leave almost at the same time, so you end up with a massive traffic jam. instead of spending a 15-minute journey, you find yourself caught in a 1-hour crammed traffic.

this season is like christmas. everyone hates to go to work. everyone wants to do shopping and dine out. everyone does lots of family visits and religious occasions. it's very very very busy!

the best bet to avoid this problem is to wake up very early so to drive in peace, and then head back for home later than people leave. yes, you end up having a longer day than everyone else, but it's your call!

Loved reading through your local customs tips! I had no hair until I was almost a year old, there wouldn't have been a lot of money for charity with me!
