If you consider Malta small, then it's cute sister Gozo, also belonging to the Maltese archipelago, is tiny. Just 14.3 km long and 7.1 km wide makes it ideal to explore in a relative short time frame. Hardly any distance is over 15 minutes by car and it's very difficult to get lost. It lacks all the cons of mainland Malta (crowded, dense, touristy) and has its very own character. Gozo only has 29,000 inhabitants, while Malta with its 370,000 is almost 4 times as dense. Gozo, or Ghawdex in Maltese, has both stunning landscapes as well as an impressive history, going back over 5,500 years. |
