One of the main attractions of the Alsace region is their wine. Following (part of) the 'Route du Vin' crossing the vineyards and passing scenic villages is absolutely recommended. Several of the wineries ('domaines') welcome visitors and facilitate tastings. A comprehensive tasting takes about an hour and is usually free of charge if you end up buying some of their delicacies.
Many of the top wine domaines are located in the heart of the Alsace: the slopes west of Colmar. At the end of the 2006 harvest season, early October, we visited three of them you'll find in the 'Things to Do' section. |
