  • One of the highlights the architect Francesco Borromini (1599-1667) has built in Rome. A wonderful little church with a secluded courtyard. A unique geometrical design leading to a complex rhythm of concave and convex forms.
Entrance through the gate at Corso del Rinascimento. (Closed during lunch hours).

  • Also by the architect Borromini. A tiny little church, accesible from the Via del Quirinale right at the crossing with Via della Quattro Fontane (indeed with a fountain on every corner). The church facade was completed in 1567 and was one of the last works by Borromini. The crypt and lovely courtyard are also open to the public. A wonderful oasis in the hectic city centre.

  • The main picture is actually taken through the keyhole. It's in a gate in a wall at the Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta located in Aventino. The square itself (a rare realised design by Piranesi) is a beauty on it's own. Looking through the bronze hole in the gate door gives it a true apotheosis: a perfect symmetric view of the dome of St.Peter at the end of a lane.

  • Probably the biggest park in the city of Rome (west part of town). A perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon, a lunch break or a picnic.

  • A less known, but nonetheless adorable Roman church. The Santa Sabina basilica is located on the Piazza Pietro d'Illiria in Aventino and dates from 425 AD. Adjacent to the church is an orange garden with views over the city.

  • Almost parallel to the Tevere river is the Via Giulia; one of the first Renaissance streets (16th century plan by Bramante). An impressive yet cosy street to stroll.
You can take one of the little buses of line 116 to get there.
