Favorite thing: Although there are many must-not-miss sites for a visit to Egypt I think the best activity I would take someone on is to take them into the streets of Cairo. It was in Egypt that I learned of the truth of the statement I make on my home VT page that you can visit any country with 60 words of the local language.

It is only by learning a few words of arabic and getting into the streets that you can escape the hordes of sellers, guides and scammers that often seem to surround the prime tourist attractions.

Fondest memory: I took a train trip down the Nile from Luxor and stopped in a small town that rarely sees any tourists. We stayed at the police station because there was no hotel. We were objects of friendly curiousity. It almost seemed like we were visiting a Nile town of thousands of years ago.
