Panglao Island

This is the long stretch of Alona Beach in Panglao Island. It is said that the beach line was named after a famous (at that time) Filipina sexy (bomba) star in the 70's named Alona Alegre who shot her bold film in the beach. That time the beach was unnamed and when the curious natives were beach-bound to catch a glimpse of Alona Alegre, and if someone would ask them where they were going, the would say "kay Alona (the sexy star)". Then on the beach got it's name "Alona".

The place is to die for... At any given season of the year, it is always perfect for sun-tanning, swimming and just losing time in the beach...

When I was small, Panglao seemed to be that far from our place so our visit to this place was limited to once or twice a year during Easter Sunday and when my dad comes home for vacation.

I have seen how the place is transformed. When I was a kid, it practically only had Alona Kew Beach Resort and without yet it's hotel type of accommodation, some cottages and some huts and the burned-down Playa Blanca. In highschool, we used to camp somewhere in the beach.

It's only in the last few years that the beach became crowded. New resorts have sprouted and more tourists came and still coming.
