Mono Lake, a recovering endangered ecosystem!

by JLBG - last update: Feb 12, 2009

In Mono County, Lee Vining is a 400 inhabitants town on the southwest shores of Mono Lake, at an elevation of 2067 meters (6781 feet).
It is close to the eastern entrance into Yosemite National Park, to the ghost town of Bodie. We did not visit the town itself but Mono Lake.

Mono lake is a green oasis in the dry Great Basin which makes it a unique ecosystem. This gives it a great importance as a birds’ heaven. It is about 7.5 km x 7.5 km.

Great chemical-geological description of Mono Lake :-)) Good that it is recovering now - I hope it stays that way!

Jean-Louis, Not too sure of the alls well that ends well. I need water in LA to keep from dehydrating other wise my species may be endangered.
