Veliki Ostros Travel Guide: 30 reviews and 36 photos

Skadarsko Jezero National Park extends on the southwestern shore of Skadar lake, dotted with small islands. Some are uninhabited, on others, a monastery is all what they host. Main islands are Duzica, Tophana with a monastery, Moročnik with a monastery, Gorica, Beška with a monastery, Golubovo, Star Devo with a monastery, Gorica and Grmožur.

This page will give chronologically photos taken in a round trip beginning in Ulcinj. On this map, I have drown our itinerary in red : Ulcinj, Krute, Vladimir, Ostros, Livari, Virpazar (separate page), Petrovac, Bar, Stari Bar (separate page), Ulcinj. It should have been under "Skadar lake" but as this destination does not exist in VT location database, I have put it under Ostros, one of the main villages of the eastern shore of Skadar lake. The last pictures were taken on the return road between Virpazar and Petrovac.

When leaving Ulcinj, a huge road sign advertise for the monasteries on Skadar lake. Unfortunately, the photo I took was blurred, then I decided to draw a picture almost like the original one (except a drawing of the monasteries !).

The road is 50 km of wonder. However, read my warning tip before doing it !

C I visited these pages in 2006/7 but had no idea would be on the same road just 2 wks ago.I should have read the bit about the mountain passes and wearing a scarf, Do hope VT will give Lake Skadar National park it's location. Yr tips superb as always.

Haha, I better put a thick scarf on my eyes, hop in the car and drive :-) this landscape is just too good and beautiful! I bet that the local produces are very yummie :-)

Wow JL what an adventure to travel along that treacherous mountain road. You were indeed rewarded with some very beautiful scenery.My favourite vision is of the lonely grave with an eternal magnificent view.

Veliki Ostros area seems to be an outdoor paradise with the Island, the lakes, the bay, the eastern slopes of Rumija, and the mountain villages. The steep road looks fascinating.
